# League of California Chess Clubs (LCCC)

> A student-run scholastic chess league for California middle and high schools. Schools compete as
> teams — five players per roster, five boards per match — grouped into eight regional pods so no
> school travels more than about an hour. Pod champions meet in a statewide final.

LCCC was founded in 2026 by the Rocklin High School Chess Club and is run by students. Membership
is free; schools pay only a per-player entry fee at events. The league is independent and is not
affiliated with CalChess, US Chess, or any national federation.

## Competition format

- **Tiebreaks:** Match points, then board points, then head-to-head
- **Pods:** 8 regional pods of 5–8 schools each — Placer, Sacramento, East Bay (Oakland),
  East Bay (Tri-Valley), North Bay, Fremont/Tri-City, Modesto, San Joaquin

## Season 2 calendar (2026–27)

- **Event 1:** weekends of October 3–25, 2026
- **Event 2:** January 16 – February 7, 2027
- **Statewide final:** Saturday, May 22, 2027, at Rocklin High School
- **Registration closes:** end of August 2026

Each pod event is hosted on a member campus and runs roughly five to six hours including a lunch
break. The league handles pairings, standings and scheduling; host schools provide a room with
tables.

## How schools join

A school needs one staff member willing to sponsor the club and five students who want to play.
Schools apply through the form on the homepage under "Bring your school into the league," or by
emailing chessrocklin@gmail.com.
